Staff Bios
Jennifer Turner is the principal for TLS. She received her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, with minors in English and Journalism, from Kansas State University. She also has a Master of Science in Educational Administration and Leadership from Kansas State University. Mrs. Turner has been at TLS since 2008. She also has the following experience:
Junction City High School:
• Taught 9th English, 9th Honors English, Communications, and Life Skills
• Taught Digital Imaging, Sports Writing, Beginning Journalism, Public Relations, and Advertising
• Advised Award-winning Newspaper and Yearbook
• Coached Cheerleading
Sylvan Learning Center as Director of Education
Allen County Community College as an English Composition II Instructor.
Mrs. Turner serves on the Topeka and Shawnee County Library Board and resides in Topeka with her husband, Eric. Her home church is Christ Lutheran Church, Topeka. Her birthday is March 23. Outside interests and activities include spending time with friends and family, photography, reading, writing, scrapbooking, KSU football, playing Scrabble, traveling, and two Pembroke Welsh Corgis (Max and Jackson). Lindsey Bates teaches 5th through 8th grade English and Literature. She is also the full-day pre-school director. Mrs. Bates is originally from Great Bend and currently resides in Lawrence with her husband, Christian. She graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor’s in Education and she’s currently working on her Masters degree. Mrs. Bates worked at the K-State Child Development Center for five years, then taught high school for five years before coming to Topeka Lutheran School Learning Center. Dakota Sorensen is the General Math teacher, 6th grade homeroom teacher, Information Technology teacher, and TLS Athletic Director. Mr. Sorensen grew up in Colorado, enjoying football, soccer, basketball and track & field. In high school he made it to state in all four sports. He received an athletic scholarship to Bethel College in North Newton, KS where he participated in football, basketball and track & field. He was selected as all conference offensive lineman for three years in football and was all conference all four years in track & field. He has an avid passion for sports and more importantly a love for watching people enjoy sports and sporting events. Mr. Sorensen is married to TLS alum, Christie Weems, and attends St. John’s Lutheran Church. Mr. Sorensen is looking forward to a great year at TLS! Kelly Schumm teaches 5th-8th grade Science and is the 5th grade homeroom teacher. She graduated from Concordia University-Wisconsin with a degree in Elementary Education, and a minor in Science. She was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin and she’s an avid Packers fan. She is also a Phillies fan by way of her husband. Andrea Kosmicki teaches 4th grade at TLS. Mrs. Kosmicki and her husband, Jacob, are originally from Nebraska. She can be contacted at kosmicki@topekalutheran.org.
Becky Frank teaches 3rd grade at TLS. She is a member of the Professional Development Committee for the Kansas District. She received a Bachelor of Science from Concordia University – Seward in 1987. She taught from 1987 to 2001 (1st / 2nd grade combination class) at St. John Lutheran School, Alma, Ks. She has been at TLS since 2001. Mrs. Frank’s birthday is May 26, and her home church is St. John Lutheran, Alma, Ks. She enjoys bell choir, singing choir, reading, and flowers. She is President of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 32, member of the Alma Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Walk4 Team for the Relay for Life. Joanna Bradshaw has served at TLS since 1992. Prior experience includes five years of teaching in Texas public schools. A TLS alum, Mrs. Bradshaw currently teaches second grade. She is a 1981 graduate of Concordia (Seward, NE) with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a certificate in early childhood education. Mrs. Bradshaw is married with three grown children. Cindy Hamilton teaches Physical Education for kindergarten through 8th grade and Health for 5th through 8th grade. She received a Bachelor of Education from Washburn University. Her experience includes high school coaching and substitute teaching from 1981 to 1994. She has been at TLS since 1994. Mrs. Hamilton’s home church is Christ Lutheran Church, Topeka. Her birthday is May 17. She serves on the Silver Lake Library Board and the altar guild at her church. Mrs. Hamilton can be contacted at hamilton@topekalutheran.org.

Benno Schluterman teaches 8th Grade Latin at TLS and can be contacted at bennos@prodigy.net.
Jane Schaible is the volunteer librarian at Topeka Lutheran School. She won the Jefferson Award for her volunteer work at TLS. Her biggest satisfaction from being librarian comes from watching young children learn how to read and then get hooked on reading. She often helps children find “just the right book” so that they will learn to love reading. Often, she encourages them to choose books nominated for the prestigious William Allen White award. Walt Malone runs the Bal-A-Vis-X (http://www.bal-a-vis-x.com/) lab. His education includes two years at St. John’s and two years at Concordia University-Seward. He has 40 hours of post graduate work and has attended numerous workshops in science and in Bal-A-Vis-X. Mr. Malone started teaching in 1969 and was a school principal for 19 years. He has coached basketball for 40 years and volleyball for 19 years. He retired from teaching at TLS in 2010. His home church is Christ Lutheran Church, Topeka, and his birthday is November 24. Mr. Malone enjoys fishing, especially trout fishing in Colorado and the Rocky Mountains; hunting; working with his dog; painting and carving; watching and coaching sports; watching and coaching his grandchildren; and being involved in his church as an usher, lector and worker.
